Abstract

Recently, particulate matter has become an important social problem, and various environmental policies have been proposed to deal with it. Therefore, this study investigated the effect of particulate matter risk perception on environmental policy support. Specifically, the effect of VBN on personal norms through particulate matter risk perception and ascription of responsibility and the effect of personal norms on environmental policy support were investigated. To this end, participants of nature-based outdoor recreation activities were surveyed. As a result, altruistic value and biospheric value had an influence on particulate matter risk perception and ascription of responsibility with particulate matter risk perception having more influence. Particulate matter risk perception and ascription of responsibility were influenced by personal norms, and personal norms influenced environmental policy support. In addition, the mediating effects indicated that particulate matter risk perception and ascription of responsibility significantly mediated the relationship between value and personal norms. The results of this study imply that particulate matter risk perception and ascription of responsibility are an important part of environmental policy support.
